As a Lutheran, how can we say that baptism saves us?
🚨 *How can we say that baptism saves us?* 🚨
Ever wonder what’s up with baptism and why it’s such a big deal for Lutherans?
Let’s look at 1 Peter 3:18-22 📖.
Peter compares baptism to the story of Noah—remember him?
The guy who built the ark and survived the flood 🌊.
But here’s the thing: Noah didn’t save himself on that ark.
It was God who sealed the door and kept him safe, just like God saves us through baptism.
It’s not just a ritual or a symbol.
In baptism, God gives us a *clear conscience* because we’re united with Christ’s death and resurrection. 🙏
Jesus did the work on the cross, and baptism is how we receive that gift—it’s not about what we do, but what HE has done for us.
Through water and the word of God, our consciences are cleansed of all stain and sin
We are given forgiveness and life everlasting
You see, baptism saves because it’s Christ’s baptism.
It’s not an act of your pastor.
It’s not your act as the person being baptized
But it is the act of our Lord Jesus Christ who by water and his word
Redeems us
Gives us new life
And brings us into himself
So that we might receive all the benefits of his death now and forever.
