Psalm 6: How to Confess Your Sins to God

Psalm 6: Confession and Absolution 🙏✨

V. 1: How to Confess Our Sins

Psalm 6 provides us with an opportunity to make a real confession of sin.😔

What David is not saying: “Don’t be mad at me, God. What I did wasn’t that bad.”
Rather, he knows he’s sinful 😔 and deserves God’s wrath 🔥.

In the Divine Service, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean.
That’s an opportunity for us to make a real confession of sin before God 💬.

God doesn’t forgive us because our confession is so great, but because of His grace, love, and mercy ❤️💙💛.

V. 6-7: How to React to Our Sins

David’s reaction is what we ought to have because of our sins 😢.

Those around us, and the devil 😈, would delight in keeping us away from God ⛓️ and keeping us in despair 🌑.

V. 10: The Good News ✨

Here’s the good news — God hears the sound of your weeping and He forgives you because of His grace and mercy 💖.

He accepts your prayers and puts all of your enemies under His feet 👣 — sin, death, and the devil. He puts them to shame, despite your sin 😇.

He does this for you despite your inability and your failure to do anything to bring you into a proper relationship with Christ 💔.

God has had mercy upon you and all of mankind by sending His Son, Jesus Christ ✝️, to be your Savior. He is the recipient of God’s wrath — as our substitute.

There are two parts to confessing our sins… confession and absolution 💭💫.

You can trust that your sins are truly forgiven before God in heaven.👑
