Why We Go to Church | What We Learn From Psalm 24

Psalm 24 is what’s known as a liturgical psalm. 📜

It would have been used entering the house of the Lord. ⛪

What’s so cool about this Psalm is that starting at verse 7, we have a hymn within the Psalm. 🎶

It gives us the theology of worship. 🛐

Why do we go to church?

To praise God 🙌
To be served by God (that’s why it’s called the Divine Service). 🤲
Where do we find this in the Bible? Right here in Psalm 24. 📍

It says: Open the gates that the King of Glory may come in because he’s the one that’s strong and mighty in battle. ⚔️

He’s the one doing the work. 🛠️

When God enters into the divine service, He enters in so that He may forgive our sins. 🤍

Because we are forgiven our sins, we have eternal life… 🌟⏳

That means death is defeated ❌
That means we have salvation ✨
That means the devil is overcome. 😈

We are saved from the devil, from hell, and from the pressures of this world. 🌍

Worship is about being served by God — God doing something for you, not the other way around. 🤲

The liturgical Psalms help us understand what is happening when the Holy Spirit calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies us by bringing us all together in the divine service to:

Hear the gospel 📖🕊️
Receive the sacrament 🍞🍷
Continue to live in faith toward God and in firm love toward one another. 🤝❤️

Sing 🎤, mark ✍️, learn 📘, and inwardly digest Psalm 24. 🙏

Be reassured that worship is best understood as God coming and serving you. 🤲👑
