All Things New: Your Inheritance is ‘Kept in Heaven for You’

Peter writes in 1 Peter: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who, in His great mercy, has caused us to be born again to a living hope through Christ’s resurrection from the dead.”

This birth grants us an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading — kept in heaven for us who are guarded by God’s power through faith for salvation ready to be revealed at the last time.

Though we rejoice in this promise, we currently experience grief through various trials.

Through water and the Word in Holy Baptism, we’ve been born a second time into God’s family with Christ as our brother.

All that belongs to Him is now ours — a wonderful inheritance awaiting us in heaven.

Yet we still face temptations from the devil, the world, and our flesh.

Often we fail and give into sin — this is our reality as sinners in this life. But these failures don’t forfeit our inheritance.

Christ died on the cross to forgive all our sins. Our inheritance remains secure because we are forgiven in Christ, our treasure protected by all of heaven.

One day we will receive this inheritance — our Christian hope rests on God’s promise to us. This inheritance is already ours, yet kept safe in heaven until that endless day when we will enjoy everything God has promised in Christ Jesus.

Then, temptation from the devil, world, and flesh will cease as we are made perfect in Jesus.

So rejoice now!

Eternity with God is yours because Christ is risen from the dead.

Though trials and suffering remain in this world, Christ’s gifts to you are guarded by heaven itself, waiting to be fully revealed when He returns to bring you home.
