God promises to make all things new.
In Revelation 21:5, He says, “I am making all things new.”
We hold onto that promise. All the suffering, brokenness, and imperfection we see now — that’s not how it will be forever.
God is making all things new, and we see this in Jesus as He dies and rises from the dead.
He has eternal life, and we’re baptized into that death and resurrection with the promise that we will receive that same eternal life.
It already belongs to us, but we wait to see it on the last day.
That’s the wonderful good news — by God’s grace, we’ll be gathered to our Lord forever, away from the suffering we see now.
Paul says the suffering we face now is nothing compared to the glory that will be revealed when Christ returns.
We do not live in this time of suffering without hope. We look forward with hope to Christ’s return.
Even if someone is suffering with a physical ailment, they can say with joy and honesty: I only have to deal with this for a little while. When Christ returns, everything is made right.
Whatever you’re dealing with — relationships causing suffering, health problems, sin that plagues you — you only deal with it for a little while.
We take all our concerns, sorrows, and sufferings to the Lord. He hears our prayers.
We pray for healing, reconciliation, and peace.
But our hope and assurance is that on the last day when the trumpet sounds, all sorrow and suffering will be wiped away.
The Lord gives us strength to endure until that last day.
Through Christ we have eternal life.
We cling to that promise.
We see suffering and death, and we remember God’s promise through Jesus: “Come quickly, Lord Jesus, wipe away the tears and bring us into your new and unbroken creation.”
