We all love getting new things, don’t we?
Even with our nostalgia for old possessions, there’s something exciting about something new.
In Scripture, God promises us something truly new: eternal resurrected life.
In Revelation 21:5, God proclaims from His throne, “I am making all things new” and commands John to “write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true.”
Think about what was lost when sin entered the world:
☑️Food without toil
☑️ Life without suffering
☑️ Relationships without conflict
☑️ Communion with God without division
Paradise was corrupted
Yet God loved His creation so deeply that He entered into it.
The Creator took on flesh and blood — then shed that blood on the cross to establish a new covenant with us.
Death appeared victorious when Jesus was laid in the tomb.
But on the third day, death vanished like shadows when light appears.
Christ rose!
And He promises us that same resurrection when He returns in glory.
The Holy Spirit works faith in our hearts to trust this promise of victory and eternal life.
We cling to God’s words daily as we confess our sins and hear, “You are forgiven.”
When we gather to receive Word and Sacrament, we hear Christ’s words: “This is my body; this is my blood for the forgiveness of your sins.”
We don’t rely on our service records or church attendance.
We hang onto Jesus’ words: “It is finished. You are forgiven. This is for you.”
We long for the day when suffering ends and He wipes every tear from our eyes.
Nothing will compare to the glory that awaits us.
So keep your eyes open and your ears attentive — He is making all things new.
