Psalm 58 ✨
📖 Written by David
Poses a profound question: Does anyone speak righteously? 🤔
👑 David specifically addresses the leaders of his time —the kings and rulers. His answer is clear: ❌ they do not speak uprightly.
🌍 In fact, no one on earth does. Instead, what resides in our hearts is wickedness 💔.
🔢 By Verse 3, David points out that the wicked are estranged from birth 👶. This reflects original sin, which manifests itself in actual sin 🌀.
🚶♂️ From the moment we are born, we stray and speak lies 🗣️❌.
We often see this in the rulers of this world. They speak poison, like the poison of a serpent 🐍.
🎧 In Verse 4, we learn that they cannot hear, and they will not hear.
They are charmed by their own thoughts 🪄 of how things should work in this world 🌐.
If our good works are done to achieve righteousness for ourselves rather than to serve our neighbors ❤️, we end up serving ourselves 🔄—simply adding sin upon sin.
Psalm 58 is a sobering yet hopeful passage 🌟.
🔟 In Verse 10, there is great comfort as it says:
The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
✝️ This verse reminds us of our Lord Jesus Christ—his crucifixion, death, and resurrection ⛪.
Our rejoicing is not merely in the recompense given to the wicked, but in the profound truth that our sins have been forgiven 🙌.
🔥 The vengeance of God was poured out on Jesus Christ, offering redemption to us all.
❓ Do we speak righteously?
On our own, the answer is no 😔. But Christ has placed his words in our mouths ✨. Through him, the forgiveness of sins has become our truth and reality — now and forever 🙏.
